How to Organize a Jewelry Box

Are you wondering how to organize a jewelry box at home with ease?

Do you need help cleaning things out and organizing accessories so you can find them?

In this post, you’ll find a few tips to help you organize the contents of a jewelry box.

You can also use these tips to organize any compartmentalized storage container, be it a tackle box, makeup box, toolbox or the like.

Empty the box.

The first step in organizing a jewelry box is to empty the box so you can get a better view of the interior.

Before you do so, you’ll want to find a separate sturdy container or box in which to temporarily store items.

And in case you were wondering, an empty cardboard shoe box work remarkably well for this type of temporary storage!

Carefully remove each article of jewelry into the shoe box and set the box side.

Next, it’s time to give the jewelry box a thorough cleaning.

You can give the jewelry box a thorough cleaning by hand with a dust cloth or give it a thorough vacuuming with a vacuum cleaner.

Declutter your jewelry collection.

Now it’s time to do some spring cleaning!

Go through your collection of jewelry and sort items into three separate piles.

The piles will be items to keep, items to clean or repair, and items to give away or donate.

The first pile includes items you’re going to keep and replace back into the jewelry box.

The second pile is for items that need to be repaired at the jewelers. Think bands, clasps or hooks that need repair.

Likewise, this pile will serve double-duty for any items that need to be cleaned or polished.

The third pile is for those items you no longer wish to keep.

You may decide to carefully pack and wrap items to give to a friend or family member.

Other ideas include donating jewelry to charity of your choice or reselling jewelry at a reputable shop.

Sort the remaining items.

Now it’s time to go through each of the remaining items in your collection and sort them into distinct piles.

Carefully sort jewelry into the following piles: necklaces, bracelets, rings, earrings, pins and brooches.

You can further sort these piles into smaller piles, should you so desire.

You can sort items by size or length (chain length in a necklace), material (gold, silver, pearls, beads, wood, fabric, etc.), formal, or casual pieces.

Take stock of BOX compartments.

Get a good look at all the built-in compartments in the jewelry box.

What type of sections, compartments, drawers or hooks are there inside the box?

How could you organize your collection inside of these compartments?

You may find it helpful to do grab a notebook and do some quick planning.

Lay out items from your collection beside the open jewelry box to get a sense of where you’ll store things inside.

Replace items.

According to your plan, replace all items back into the box, one by one.

If you have sufficient space, place one piece into a single compartment. If not, just make use of the space you have.

In some cases, for example, you may need to double or triple up rings in a small boxed section.

Keep your jewelry box in order and place pieces back into their designated compartments after each wearing.
