Why You Shouldn’t Squeeze Everything in This Year

Why You Shouldn't Squeeze Everything in This YearFeeling a bit of pressure because the end of the year is near?

Trying to do that last bit of work on a personal project so you can get it completed and done in 2014?

In this post, I offer some tips to gently remind you there’s no need to be in a rush.

Time really is on your side!

There’s no need to get frazzled and stressed out just because a calendar year is ending.

If you’re feeling undue pressure to complete something because you said you would, take a step back and think about the following:

Squeezing a year’s worth of work into less than two weeks’ time is pretty much impossible.

It’s just a teeny bit unreasonable to think you’ll be able to squeeze in a full year’s worth of work into just a couple of weeks.

Okay, I recant that previous statement; it’s a wholly unreasonable and practically physically impossible!

Instead of focusing on everything you said you’d do, choose one small manageable task to complete right now.

For example, let’s say you said you’d clean out your two-car garage this year, but didn’t.

Just choose three easy-to-access items to get rid of right now. It won’t be everything you said you’d do, but it is something.

Getting stressed out doesn’t help you in the long run.

Will you turn into a pumpkin at the strike of midnight on New Year’s if you’re only 14 pages of the way done with your 500-page fiction manuscript? Probably not.

Sure, you may feel poorly about not reaching your initial goal, but you don’t have to stress out about it and carry that with you into the future.

That’s not the best way to spend your time. Let your stress go; take a deep breath and relax.

Focus instead on what you’ll do now to reach your goal.

Maybe scheduling time to work on your project in your calendar daily will help you stay on target to sit down and write.

Time really doesn’t care what time it is.

That’s a bit of a strange phrase, isn’t it? But it is 100% percent true.

Time doesn’t care whether it’s today, tomorrow, yesterday, last year, or next year. Time is just time.

Once you understand this, you’ll realize it really doesn’t matter when you do something…so long as you actually do it.

So some moments in 2014 were a bust, no big deal.

Turn your attention instead to the actual doing of your work.

Will you make the commitment to do what you need to do on a regular basis?

Before you know it, time will just fly by, and you’ll get done what needs to get done.
