How to Never Forget a Birthday

Looking to never forget a birthday, anniversary, or holiday ever again?

Do you want some simple tips to help you keep track of important dates?

If you have trouble remembering dates, there’s one simple thing you can do to stay on track.

How? Use the recurring events feature in digital and online calendars.

All it takes is a few minutes to put things in order.

What’s more, your reminders will be set…for years to come!

In this post, you’ll find the steps you need to take in order to create calendar reminders.

It’s a simple way to not forget a birthday, anniversary, or important date, ever again.

Make a list of important dates and events.

Create a list of important personal dates and events throughout the year.

These could be birthdays, anniversaries, memorials, etc.

You may find it helpful to sit with a calendar and go through the year, month by month, in order to jog your memory.

Reference any existing calendars or planners as necessary.

Take a break and review your list.

As thorough as you may be, you probably won’t collect all of your important dates in one setting.

You might suddenly remember Aunt Sarah’s birthday is in October.

Or you may come across a card reminding you of your best friend’s wedding anniversary.

To combat this, review your list in a couple of days’ time to make sure you didn’t miss anything.

Add items to your online calendar.

Now it’s time to add your dates to your calendar.

Open up your online calendar to January, and start scheduling events one-by-one.

Make sure you select “recurring event” or “recurring yearly event” for each calendar item.

Here’s some other important points to keep in mind:

Build a calendar reminder habit.

Get into the habit of adding new yearly events to your calendar as they occur.

You could make a note, for example, when you receive a birth announcement from a family member or friend.

Utilize as many reminders as you’d like.

Worried an important date or event will catch you off guard?

Schedule a secondary reminder into your calendar a week or two out from that date.

Make note of related actions.

If there’s a specific action you need to take surrounding a certain date, set a calendar reminder for it.

For example, let’s say you always treat your sister to a special birthday lunch, and her birthday is in early May.

You might make a recurring reminder to “Book lunch at restaurant for Jane’s birthday” in early or mid-April.

Backup your data.

Concerned your digital calendar might crash?

Make sure to back up your computer and electronic devices regularly and/or create a separate paper calendar or schedule with yearly dates.
