Do you follow a lot of blogs?Image of a woman typing on a keyboard and the phrase, How to Easily Organize the Blogs You Read with Bloglovin'

Are you having trouble keeping on top of your reading?

In this post, I’ll show you how to organize your blog reading with the convenient app, Bloglovin’.

Full disclosure: I am not being compensated, financially, or otherwise, in any shape, form, type, or sort for using, reviewing, or mentioning the Bloglovin’ app.

What is Bloglovin’?

Bloglovin’ is an app that lets you follow your favorite blogs, find new ones, and even organize your blogs and blog posts into handy categories and collections, which we’ll be doing in just a bit.

In essence, Bloglovin’ allows you to capture and organize all of your favorite blogs in one convenient place.

You can easily view your favorite blogs with a single click, save posts into collections and categories (more on that later), share posts via email, Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest, and mark individual blog posts as read/unread.

Bloglovin’ has a nice, clean, look, and an easy-to-use interface.

This matters quite a lot when you’re doing a lot of reading online, and want to keep everything as simple and neat as possible.

You can use Bloglovin’ online in a web browser here, or download it for your iPhone or Android smart phone.

I’m going to walk you through setting up Bloglovin’ using a web browser, so make sure you follow the below instructions when you are at a desktop or laptop computer.

Ready? Let’s get started…

How to get started with Bloglovin’

1) Sign up for a Bloglovin’ account.

You can sign up for an account at Bloglovin.com; it’s free! Already have an account? You can just login.

2) Find and follow your favorite blogs.

Use the search box at the top of the screen to find your favorite blogs. Once you find a blog, click the “Follow” button next to it.

If your favorite blog isn’t listed, simply type in the web address of the blog and it will be added to the Bloglovin’ database.

3) Set your email preferences.

Click the “Settings” button underneath your profile. You’ll see a section called “Email me about blogs I follow.”

You can choose to receive a single daily summary of new blog posts from all of your selected blogs (this is the default setting), receive an email update anytime one of your bloggers publishes a post, or choose not receive an email update at all.

If you choose the last option, you’ll have to remember to log into Bloglovin’ regularly to read your blogs.

Organize blogs you follow into categories

1) Start on your personal profile.

Click on your personal profile icon on the top of the page; it should have a little down arrow next to it.

You’ll soon see a drop-down menu appear. Once you do, select “Edit blogs you follow.”  You’ll then see a list of all the blogs you are currently following on Bloglovin’.

Now here comes the fun part: you can organize your blogs into any categories you’d like.

You may want to take a few moments to brainstorm a few category ideas with a pen and scrap of paper.

What type of categories could you create? Well, just off the top of my head you could create:

  • Subject specific categories, such as: Lifestyle, Food, Fashion, Fitness
  • Location-based categories, such as: Work, Home, School, Volunteer Group
  • Project based categories, such as: Wedding, Website, Healthy Diet, Self-Improvement

…and so on. Be creative!

2) Move blogs into their respective categories.

Once you’ve set up your categories, move blogs to their respective categories using the category selection drop-down menu listed next to each blog name.

This categorizing may take some time; it will all depend on how many blogs you follow, and how many categories you have.

3) View your categories.

When you’ve finished categorizing your blogs, click on the “My feed” button at the top of the screen.

On the right-hand side of the screen, you should see a little white box with your newly-created categories, and blogs sitting inside of them.

Organize your favorite posts into collections

1) Make sure your blog feed is working properly.

Click on the “My feed” button at the top of the screen. You should now see all of the blogs you follow in one long continuous column with the blog name, blog title, date, photo (if any), and brief blog description.

2) Find a blog post to save.

Scroll down your feed and select a single blog post to save. You should see the word “Save” next to a heart icon. A window will pop up and you’ll be asked to save the post to a collection. Go ahead and create a collection name of your choice.

3) Check your collection tab.

Click on the profile button near the top of the screen. You should see your Bloglovin’ profile come up. Select “Collections” from the menu. You’ll see the collection you just created, along with the blog post you just saved.

Hi. Thanks for the info. If I start using bloglovin app, do I then cancel my email subscription to my blogs? And if so, how would I do that?

    Thanks

Hi Dawn, thanks for your comment. It is completely up to you whether or not you cancel your email subscriptions to the blogs you follow once you start using the Bloglovin’ app. You may find it easier to have everything streamlined into one single email newsletter via Bloglovin’. The choice is really up to you.

In order to cancel your individual email subscriptions to the blogs you follow, you will have to manually unsubscribe from that blog’s mailing list. In most cases, there should be an unsubscribe link at the bottom of blog email newsletters. I hope that helps answer your question.

    Hi Rashelle,

I think the info u gave is not fully correct about the App, there is no option to categorize the Blogs, or what so ever, as you said. On clicking on profile icon you just get three tabs, Saved, Following, Followers

Hmm, that’s odd, it should work. Have you tried clicking on the “EDIT” button that’s near the Following tab? That should take you to a new page, http://www.bloglovin.com/subscriptions, where you can add blogs and create categories. Let us know how it goes!
