Why You Shouldn’t Be Afraid of Revising Your Plans

Image of a traffic intersection and the phrase, Why You Shouldn't Be Afraid of Revising Your PlansYou’ve spent countless hours writing organizing plan for a new project or venture.

You’ve followed the plan to the letter for the past few weeks and months, yet something doesn’t feel right.

You’re hesitant to make changes to the plan, but you know things can’t stay the same…

In this post, I offer a few reasons as to why you shouldn’t be afraid of making some much-needed edits to existing plans.

Your plan was prepared with (now) dated information.

Whenever you make a plan, you base your decision off of the information that was available to you at that particular period or place in time.

Through no fault of your own, your plans inevitably become dated.

What’s the best way to cope with whatever new information is now available to you?

Change your plans, of course!

What new information do you have right now? How might you integrate it into your plan?

Your resources have changed.

Money comes and money goes, people join a company and leave a company, materials are abundant and materials are scarce. Your plans can easily become skewed whenever physical or human resources change; which is more likely than not!

As you are physically unable to use what was originally in your plan and/or budget, it’s important you reevaluate things. Which of your resources have changed? People? Materials? Money? Time? Energy? By how much? How little? What adjustments do you need to make?

You’ve gained more knowledge along the way.

Give a set of plans a few weeks, months or years, and what happens? They change. Well, not directly, but rather your relationship to the plans change. You’ve grown as a person. You’ve learned new skills, had new experiences, met new people and traveled to different places.

You might not give yourself much credit when it comes down this acquired knowledge, but you know a lot more know that you did just a short time ago. Now that you’ve got some hindsight, how could you improve upon your plan? For example, what tasks or items can you now do yourself that you couldn’t do before?

How about you? Have you ever had to revise a plan? What change did you make to set things back on course? Join in the conversation and leave a comment below!
