How to Wait for Something

How to Wait for Something

Wondering how to wait for something to happen in your life?

Are you looking for tips to help you calmly pass the time and in a productive manner?

It could be as simple as waiting online at your local café for a cup of coffee or waiting for a job offer from the company of your dreams.

It sure can be frustrating having to wait for things to settle down!

But you shouldn’t spend your entire life watching the clock or painstakingly counting the days on your calendar.

You’ve got meetings to attend, projects to work on, and a slew of other responsibilities.

In this post, you’ll find some thoughtful tips to help you calmly get through the waiting process…the right way.

Accept you’ll be uncomfortable for a time.

Sometimes the only thing you can do in a waiting situation is to simply take things at face value.

As frustrating as this may be, it’s just a fact of life.

Resign yourself to the fact that you’ll be uncomfortable while waiting for things to blow over.

Yes, this isn’t an optimal state, but things will eventually settle out over time.

You may find your discomfort tolerance levels lessen as the days and weeks pass by.

Don’t forget: things won’t be like this forever; the wait is temporary.

Take your mind off the wait.

While you can’t control what happens in the outside world, you can control your own actions, every single day.

Why not take this opportunity to accomplish something on your to-do list?

You could read that stack of books sitting in your living room, sign up for some salsa dance lessons, or pull out your watercolor set and paint a landscape.

You may decide to declutter your office or catch up on housekeeping chores that have fallen by the wayside.

Review what’s really important to you.

Take a moment to write down ten items for which you are truly grateful.

They could be small items, like your favorite mug or pen, or big items, like your relationship with your best friend or a major personal or professional accomplishment.

Now take a minute to think about the thing you’re waiting for.

How does this item relate to the ten items on your list? Is the item at the top of your list? Or is it somewhere near the bottom?

Look to the past for some perspective.

Take a minute to recall all those other times in your life when things were “up in the air.”

All of those concerns, issues, and worries…they all settled out, didn’t they?

Don’t worry. Things will eventually settle out, just as they did in the past.

You successfully made it through those waiting periods and you’ll get through this one too. This too shall pass!

How about you? What are you waiting on at the moment? Is it a decision, a response, an answer or something else? Join the conversation and leave a comment below!

Being a caretaker for a my chronically ill husband is exhausting. Sometimes I feel like my entire life is on hold because I cannot have a full time career as a professional organizer. I cope by trying to better myself every day. I study and research organizing concepts and ideas and try to regularly follow other professionals whose work inspires me such as The Order Expert. I am treating this time as a “mini vacation” to organize my business plans and ideas and to do all those crafts that have been lonely sitting on the shelf waiting for me.
