Why You Should Schedule Tasks into Your Calendar

Why You Should Schedule Tasks into Your Calendar

Do you want to schedule tasks into your calendar so you can get things done during the day?

Are you constantly procrastinating, or putting off tasks for another day, somewhere in the near future?

If you’ve never tried scheduling tasks into your calendar, then you at should at least give it a try!

In this post, you’ll find some thoughtful reasons why should schedule tasks into your schedule.

Keep in mind, you don’t have to schedule every single task into your calendar.

You should only schedule tasks as you see fit so you can accomplish what’s important to you.

You turn a task into a tangible item.

Placing a task into your schedule makes it that much more real.

No longer is that task floating around in your mind as something that should or could be done within the next week.

The task is suddenly transformed into a reality!

You are consciously acknowledging the task exists, and are putting aside the time in order to complete it.

You can focus on your work.

When you place a task in your schedule, it’s as if you are saying to yourself, “This task is what I have to focus on right now.”

That’s not a bad way to approach your work.

You don’t have to worry about multitasking or any other items on your to-do list.

You just need to focus on completing the task at hand.

You’ll have a record of your work.

You may not realize it now, but that little scheduled task can provide you some valuable information in future.

When you review your calendar in the coming weeks and months, you’ll be able to see exactly what you accomplished.

You’ll have a solid record of what tasks you did, or didn’t complete.

You’ll practice your time management skills.

If you constantly run late and want to arrive on time to your work and personal appointments, you’d do well to schedule tasks into your calendar.

Look at this as a chance to practice your time management skills.

When you schedule tasks in your calendar, you are in effect scheduling an appointment or meeting with yourself.

If you show up late, or miss the appointment, you are directly short-changing yourself and your goals.

That’s some powerful time management training, now isn’t it?

Here’s some tips to help you schedule tasks into your calendar:

Allot a decent amount of time to complete a task.

Allow yourself ample time to prepare for and complete a task.

You need to be brutally honest with yourself, here.

If you know a task will take you an hour to complete, you should schedule sixty minutes in your calendar.

No scheduling hour-long tasks into a fifteen-minute slots!

Give tasks descriptive and encouraging titles.

Who says scheduled tasks have to read as dry and boring?

Spice up your tasks by giving them descriptive and positive titles.

Instead of  “Walk dog,” why not “Enjoy new park hiking trail with Rex” or “Take a walk break in the sun.”

Yes, this might sound silly, but if a little word play can motivate you to finish a task, why not do it?

Avoid scheduling tasks immediately before meetings.

You’ll need time to prepare for and travel to your appointments.

Create a buffer of at least thirty minutes between the end of your task and when you need to start preparing for your meeting.

You can adjust this buffer time as necessary. The idea is to keep your schedule intact.
