Are you interested in brightening things up in your home when it’s time to “fall” back?

When Daylight Saving Time (DST) comes to an end, early morning sunrises and all-too-early afternoon sunsets, affects millions of households.

No matter which timezone you may live in, it’s always a good idea to take regular stock of the lighting inside your home.

After all, you don’t want to be left in the dark in your own house or apartment!

Check and adjust the location of table, desk, and floor lamps.

A dark garage corner, a desk with no light…you might have a few places in your home that could benefit from a bit of a lighting makeover.

Take a moment to walk through all of the rooms in your home. Are there any places or areas that look particularly dark or dim? Where could you move or adjust the position of an existing light source to give you a bit more light?

A seemingly small adjustment can make a tremendous difference when light is involved.

Replace and/or update lightbulbs.

Tired of stubbing your toe in the dark every time you go into your basement? Constantly squint when you’re reading a book in your favorite armchair?

Change and/or replace all those broken, dim, or fizzled out lightbulbs in your home.

Be sure to check inside closets, underneath cabinets, out in the garage, outside your home, on the pathway, in ceilings, and on table or floor lamps, for any defective or broken light fixtures.

Clean a few windows and mirrors.

It’s amazing just how much sunlight is lost through a window pane covered with dirt, grime and soot. Why not brighten things up with a little bit of cleaning?

It’s worth taking a few minutes to thoroughly clean one or two windows or mirrors in your home. There’s no need to go on a cleaning binge if you don’t want to; cleaning just one carefully selected window can work lighting wonders.

When you’re finished, take a step back and enjoy the fresh, bright light!

Make sure you have a stock of emergency lighting supplies handy.

It’s easy to take electricity for granted…that is, until the power goes out. Be prepared for any emergency with a collection of flashlights, candles, and/or glow sticks.

You might have a few of these items lying around already, but it’s worth rounding them up and storing them in a easy-to-reach place in your home, such as a convenient drawer, cupboard or closet. Don’t forget to pack up sets of fresh batteries and matches as well.

You’ll thank yourself should the power go out unexpectedly during the night.
