How to Make Time for Yourself

Wondering how you can make time for yourself during the week?

Are you looking for practical time management tips you can put to use right away?

You’re absolutely exhausted after a long day at work.

You want to relax, but you just can’t seem to get a few minutes for yourself.

It seems as if every minute of your day is occupied by someone else other than yourself.

What’s a person to do?

In this post, you’ll find a couple of tips to help you carve out and protect valuable personal time.

Put your personal time first.

Instead of trying to squeeze your personal time into inconvenient, open slots, try approaching it the other way.

What times during the week would you like to have to yourself?

Maybe you’d like to have Monday and Wednesday nights free.

Go ahead and block out those times in your calendar.

Next, you’ll want to rearrange your schedule so you have those evenings available to you.

Yes, this will require some work and patience on your end, but look at it this way: no one else is going to give you the personal time you need.

You’ll need to actively create this time for yourself, no matter the time of day, or day of the week.

So, you might as well put yourself first.

Treat your personal time with respect.

You’ve just been offered a random invitation to happy hour after work.

The week was quite challenging for you. All you want to do is soak in the tub and read your favorite novel.

Should you ditch your personal time for this spur-of-the-moment event?

Give your personal time the respect it deserves. If you scheduled time for yourself, stay on schedule.

There’s no need to go into detail, make excuses, or apologies.

You can gently decline the invite by saying something like, “Thanks for the invite, but I’m unavailable at that time,” or “Thanks for thinking of me, but I already have a prior engagement.”

Take a break from a social activities.

Once upon a time, you loved going to your woodworking class at night.

Nowadays, the whole thing seems like sheer drudgery to you. You don’t feel any different when you come home after class.

Why not give yourself a much-needed break?

You could take off for a few weeks, a month, or register for the following cycle or semester.

Remember, this isn’t punishment.

This certainly doesn’t mean you’ll never do woodworking or whatever activity floats your boat, ever again.

It’s just a break for you to relax, regroup, and spend some time with yourself.
