Does it feel like your work routine could use a major makeover in your business?

Are you looking for tips to help you work more efficiently and effectively every single day?

In this article, you’ll find several helpful tips to easily improve your work routine in your business.

How to easily improve your work routine in your business

While it’s not uncommon to fall into a familiar routine at the office, sometimes certain aspects of the workday can become stagnant.

And that can make even the most basic of work tasks feel like a 10-ton weight on your shoulders.

In my work as a productivity consultant and time management coach, people often ask me how they can add some variety and interest to their routines.

The key? Adopting creative and interesting ways to go about your regular work.

Try using any one of these six methods to give your work routine a boost.

Feel free to add one or more to your daily and weekly rounds to re-energize your daily routine.

Make preparation a foundation

It pays to be prepared in business. Where have you invariably been falling short in your daily preparations?

Take a glance at your calendar from the past several weeks. Look closely at completed events, meetings, or appointments.

Now, think about any last-minute issues, situations, or challenges that could have been averted with some forward-thinking preparations.

Some ideas include scheduling time to read documents before an appointment or creating a meeting room setup checklist.

Have an assistant confirm order or review your calendar for the week.

Conquer quick-win activities before meals

It’s no surprise that our energy levels drop right before a meal.

You may not feel as sharp as you were at the start of the workday.

Enter the quick-win activity.

This is a brief activity that doesn’t require much effort but still needs to be completed before the end of the day.

Try wrapping up the morning with a short task that takes anywhere from five to 15 minutes to complete.

Return a client phone call, check the status of your to-do list, schedule an appointment, delete emails, or tidy up your desk.

Give yourself the gift of time

Ever wish you had some time for yourself after a long and intensive meeting?

Or room to process information, ideas, and conversations from your day? Do yourself a favor and schedule some time for yourself.

Typically, we tend to book our calendars with external requests and meetings.

And when our calendars quickly fill, we don’t think of adding in time for ourselves.

Keep a close eye on your calendar. When an appointment is booked, consider adding some time for yourself into your schedule.

You may schedule the same or a lesser amount of time, depending on your needs.

Nix an unhelpful existing morning habit

What’s a personal or professional morning habit that has overstayed its welcome?

On one level, you know you need to stop doing it. It drains your energy and drive.

Well, consider this your much-needed wake-up call to break that habit!

Do you check your phone as soon as you wake up, dive into email first thing at the office, hit the snooze button every morning, or start working on a non-urgent and non-important assignment at the expense of something that’s due at 5 p.m.?

Now’s the time to make some changes. What type of new habit will you practice?

You might wait to switch on your phone till after you’ve bathed, dressed, and eaten breakfast.

You might review and plan your tasks for the day or make a point to set an earlier bedtime for yourself.

Associate a task with a different space

Some work environments are conducive to working alone, while others incorporate working with others.

And some environments can help us approach our daily work with a new outlook. Shake up your regular work tasks by actively seeking creative new work locations.

Rehearse a talk outdoors on a patio, brainstorm in a lounge area, review a document undisturbed in a conference room, or organize materials in an unused office.

Create a work wind-down schedule

Creating a wind-down work routine helps you efficiently prepare for the end of the workday so you’re not caught off guard with tasks.

You don’t want to needlessly fall into the habit of staying late to wrap up the workday.

Begin by identifying the exact end of your workday.

Now, count back five hours from that time.

Divide those five hours into unique segments that will allow you wrap up your work.

Consider devoting time to meet with staff, review urgent items, assess the status of projects, and plan for the following day.
