Do need some help when it comes to managing your time at school?

In this post, I offer several tips for students when it comes to managing their schedules.

Even if you’re not currently a student, you can still learn some helpful tips about time management in this post.

Prioritize school work.

Students often ignore a simple fact when it comes to their schedule; they are students!

As a student, you are responsible for going to class, doing homework, attending labs, completing assignments, and any other activities related to your coursework.

While extracurricular activities and social events are an important part of a student’s life, you should remember the golden rule: school work comes first.

Make a study schedule.

Get your calendar in order by creating a study schedule. The purpose of a study schedule is to ensure you sit down and do your schoolwork, as opposed to “winging it,” or waiting until the last-minute. You can schedule specific times during the day or week to study for your different courses.

Try starting out with 45-minute blocks of study time, followed by a short break, followed by more study time. Another bonus in creating a study schedule is that it allows you to see just how much time you’ve spent studying over the past few weeks and months.

Schedule time for yourself.

While you might spend your relaxation hours hanging out with friends, you should also be sure to carve out time for yourself. This is a chance for you to de-stress, relax, and just enjoy your own company. You can do whatever you’d like: read a book, sit quietly or meditate, go for a run in the park, or listen to some music.

Be aware of time drains.

These could be people, places, or activities, that seem to suck your calendar dry of any free time you may have. The best course of action is to identify and avoid these time drains where possible.

You might have to make a few adjustments to your schedule or routines, such as going to the library to study instead of the student lounge, or limiting your time with a friend who wants to play video games all-day long.

Set a regular bedtime.

Staying up late at school isn’t anything new, but you don’t have to stay up to see the wee hours of the night. Choose a reasonable bedtime on weekdays.

Of course, you can be a bit more flexible with your bedtime on the weekends, but strive to keep to your bedtime as closely as possible on weekdays. This will ensure you get enough sleep, and have enough energy during the day to take care of all your responsibilities.
